||Pediatric Surgeon, Trauma medical director potential.
||University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, TX
||The Division of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX, is looking for a full-time pediatric surgeon to join the faculty. The applicant must be either board certified or eligible to sit for the boards. In addition to the clinical responsibilities, an interest in teaching surgery residents and pediatric surgery fellows is expected. We will be starting a Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center, so this position comes with opportunity to become a Trauma Medical Director, under the mentorship of the division chief who has long-time experience with trauma. We are an academic division, and a strong research interest (clinical, basic science or health services research) is highly encouraged, which will be mentored by the senior faculty and others within the Department of Surgery.
The University of Texas Medical Branch is a large, University based hospital with over 13,000 admits to the newborn nursery and over 600 admits to the NICU each year as well as referrals from all across the gulf coast of Texas. UTMB is one of only three Level 1 trauma centers (mixed adult and pediatric) in the greater Houston area as well as one of only three ECMO centers in the greater Houston area and has a very busy tertiary care NICU with high volume of congenital anomalies. In the last few years, UTMB has expanded from 1 hospital in Galveston to 3 additional hospitals in Clear Lake, League City, and Angleton. Additionally, we are affiliated with Shriner's Children's hospital, a world-class pediatric burn center, and Driscoll Children's hospital, which has an upcoming new location in the Rio Grande Valley (an underserved population) where we will have further opportunity to grow. In 2020, the Division was approved by the ACGME to begin a Pediatric Surgery Fellowship training program in conjunction with Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi and will have its first fellow graduate in July of 2023. Our fellows and residents are excellent, and it is a rich learning environment.
||Successful applicants will enjoy a supportive and diverse practice, have an opportunity to grow programs of their interest, and enjoy living on the beautiful and peaceful Gulf coast, or in nearby suburbs of the Greater Houston area. Central Houston - a large and diverse city with a first-class food and arts culture and several great sports teams, is just under an hour's drive.
