Your contribution will be used to support:

  • The Joseph J. Tepas Best Presentation Award, awarded annually
  • The Lifetime Achievement Award in Pediatric Trauma, awarded annually
  • Expenses related to the annual Keynote Speaker

PTS Members Mauricio (Tony) Escobar, Kim Wallenstein, Emily Christison-Lagay, Jessica Naiditch, and John Petty have prepared a position statement on the role of the pediatric surgeon and the evaluation of child abuse from APSA which has been published in PubMed.

PTS Representation for the PEM Simulation Collaborative

PTS Representation for the PEM Simulation Collaborative

Dr. Francesca Bullaro, PTS Education Committee member and Past-Chair, is serving as the PTS representative on the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Simulation Curriculum Collaborative.

The goals of the project is to develop goals, objectives and content for pediatric simulation, and to maintain a unified, high quality, free, online and open access, pediatric simulation curriculum.To achieve these goals, there has been a Modified Delphi Survey and formation of collaborative workgroups. The next steps include publishing Delphi results, preparing cases in standard templates aligned to objectives, pilot scenarios and collect validity evidence and maintain and update content.

Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery The Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery (JTACS) is the official publication of the Pediatric Trauma Society. All PTS members are eligible to receive the journal at a discounted price as long as your dues are current. The reduced rate of is based on a calendar year and you have the option of choosing a paper and electronic copy, or electronic only. To sign up for the discounted rate, please contact the AAST office at 800-789-4006 and state you are with the PTS and want the discounted rate for JTACS, (please have your PTS membership number handy). To continue to receive JTACS, you will need to contact AAST to renew your subscription starting in October of each year.

The PTS Nursing Leadership Committee continues to thrive and maintain a robust listserv with active discussions amongst its members. The group continues to have bi-monthly conference calls. In alignment with our goals, the nurse leadership committee will begin educational teleconference calls on a rotating, bi-monthly schedule. Topics for these calls will be driven from the discussions that take place on the listserv. This will also serve as a forum for nurses to share best practices. More

We are very excited to participate in the judging of the Stop the Bleed grant proposals in the upcoming weeks. We are continuing to put out a monthly newsletter with either a journal scan or case report. Be on the lookout for a special edition this summer on gun violence. The Education Committee is also working on developing a panel discussion on trauma video review for the PTS Annual Meeting in November.

PTS Guidelines Progress/objectives:

Fractures in Child Abuse - outline of the data and recommendation was presented at EAST. The presentation was well received and several members indicated they looked forward to publication.

MTP/Coagulopathy - Recommendations are complete and working on manuscript.

Renal Trauma - manuscript has accepted by the Journal of Trauma. Now available online!

Trauma Transfer PICO questions have been reorganized to focus on TBI. Literature search is complete and beginning review.

A working group is being established to look at EAST pmg's and examine which are amenable to commentary, adoption or complementary update from a pediatric perspective.
