The PTS Nursing Leadership Committee continues to grow, adding new members to our group regularly, as well as having active participation to our robust listserv. We recently held an in-person meeting during the PTS conference in Houston, TX on Wednesday November 7th. Over 40 nursing leaders were in attendance! Discussion about nursing education (specifically PICU) was robust and led to development of another subcommittee to review educational opportunities for nursing and recommendations that would assist all center...

We had a great committee meeting in Houston and we thank each member for their commitment to the committee and the PTS. We reviewed the follow up survey and planned for the upcoming year. We will continue the monthly educational newsletter, alternating journal scan and case reports. In addition, we have planned to partner with EAST on pediatric trauma education and use their expertise to improve our social media outreach. The Education Committee will also develop an early riser's session for the 2019 annual meeting. We are excited and looking forward to the coming year!
Guidelines Committee Update
Ian Mitchell, MD

Fractures in Child Abuse and MTP/Coagulopathy groups are finished literature reviews with goals to have recommendations finished and manuscripts submitted by year's end.

Renal Trauma recommendations are completed and submitted to JOT.

Trauma Transfer group is working on literature review and has picked up new members at this year's meeting.

A working group is being established to look at EAST pmg's and examine which are amenable to commentary, adoption or complementary update from a pediatric perspective.

It was an informative, productive meeting in Houston, and I look forward to more updates and projects as the year progresses!

2019 Goals & More!

Advanced Practice Provider Committee
Dana Noffsinger, CPNP, Education Committee Chair Dana Noffsinger, CPNP
Elizabeth Waibel, CPNP, Education Committee Co-chair Elizabeth Waibel, CPNP

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Committee has developed a national survey on the role of APPs in pediatric trauma. Co-chairs, Dana Noffsinger and Liz Waibel are heading the project. The research is multi-site IRB approved with the support of past PTS president, Dr Jonathan I Groner, and current PTS president, Dr Randall S. Burd. The survey aims to describe how APPs are being utilized in the care of pediatric trauma patients across trauma centers in the United States. It will be distributed to PTS membership and pediatric trauma centers identified by the American College of Surgeons. The survey should be completed by APPs active in the care of pediatric trauma patients and can be accessed using the following link: If you are not an APP but utilize the role at your facility, please forward them this link! Results will be presented at the 2019 PTS annual meeting and proposed for publication.
In this Policy Statement, we delineate the recommended resources necessary to prepare emergency departments (EDs) to care for pediatric patients. Adoption of the recommendations in this Policy Statement will facilitate the delivery of emergency care for children of all ages and, when appropriate, timely transfer to a facility with specialized pediatric services. This joint Policy Statement is an update of previously published guidelines.
The INSIGHT Research Program at Harborview Injury Prevention & Research Center is a paid, eight-week summer internship in Seattle, WA for undergraduate students, graduate students and first-year medical students.
